The First Therapy Session of Osteopathy
♫ Friday, October 8th, 2010You have just heard about osteopathy, and you signed up for a therapy session with the osteopath. Now as your therapy date comes closer you have started freaking out. After all, this is a treatment that you have absolutely no idea about. Your fears regarding the safety of your bones are well founded, considering how these days many uncertified therapists market themselves. In case you are on the verge of canceling out your appointment, wait along. Osteopathy is not just any treatment that has come out of the blue. This is a treatment that has been there around since 1890s. Your osteopath is a certified physician who had to undergo around 4 to 5 years of study and 2 years of practical experience.
Well in case you are still not relieved, then it is better to get a fair idea of what you can expect on your first therapy session. The whole idea behind osteopathy is that the treatment would focus on the individual. This means in that the first step to Osteopathy is that your personal medical history will be thoroughly reviewed. This does not mean you will be expected to bring all your medical records along with you. The treatment is essentially a manual one. However it would never hurt you to carry your x-ray reports along with you. Once you meet your osteopath, he or she will first get to know you. This is important as Osteopathy aims at directing your lifestyle in a healthy manner. That is why your lifestyle, daily routine, amount of physical exercise will all be areas of interest for your Osteopath.
Of course after the general discussion on your lifestyle the focus of conversation would turn to the more technical issues. The osteopath would ask you all that is there to know about your medical history. You will have to lay special emphasis on problems faced by your bones and muscles. It is best to find out if you have a bone issue in your family since a lot of bone issues are hereditary. After that the manual treatment would begin where you would have to lie down on the treatment table and the osteopath would begin the diagnosis. The whole procedure is a simple one and would not take you more than 1 hour. Once you have your first therapy session you are sure to love it.
