To find a UK business insurance you should know which are required by law and some by prudence.Legally Required Insurance – The minimum UK business insurance required by law is risks against third parties and it is the following:

- Employer’s Liability. When you start a business with even one employee it is required by law to get Employer’s Liability Insurance. UK business insurance providers prescribed £10m as a legal minimum amount to cover injuries, disease or illness sustained in the time of employment.

- Public Liability. This is a UK business insurance that covers your liability for damages if any public (customer or client) sustains an accident resulting in injury, loss of damage to their property for which your company will be responsible.

- Product Liability. This protects you against claims of others for damage to their property caused by products that you have manufactured. This UK business insurance includes the supply of products to other businesses; this type of insurance will also cover legal expenses and the cost of complying with any judgements.

- Professional Indemnity. You can be sued because of poor financial advices or serious flaw on surveying a property. This type of UK business insurance provides protection against clients who believe you gave poor service which they have incurred losses. It is not compulsory. But if your business is offering investment advice in any form, you must have this insurance.

Other Important UK business Insurance:

- Motor Vehicles. If your employees use their own cars or any kind of vehicle for business then it is your duty to ensure they are covered by this type of UK business insurance under their personal policies.

- Directors and Officers Liability. There are instances that the directors of limited companies can be sued. D&O insurance covers individuals for personal liability arising out of a ‘wrongful act’. Where the company has stumped up the cost on the individual’s behalf.

- Legal expenses. Provides you access to legal advice from the insurance company’s specialist lawyers, covers other contingencies like product liability.

- Credit insurance. This UK business insurance protects you from debtors going bust – you can insure a proportion of your own turnover or any individual account.

- Life insurance. This is necessary if your business supports your family, to ensure that funds were available to pay off debts even without you.

Where and how to buy business insurance?

Most major insurance companies offer ‘package insurance’ for small businesses that cover most of the important contingencies in a single policy.

Do you consider yourself self employed or have contractors that you consider to be self-employed? Do the contractors turn up to work everyday, have tasks and assignments controlled by the employer, complete assignments on site using company property, and seem to be treated like an employee? If so, you have employees and not self employed contractors even if you have a contract that states otherwise. Many contractors wrongly pretend to the HMRC that they are self employed even though legally they are considered employees.

In a recent Court of Appeal case it was decided that two workers who identified themselves to the HMRC as self employed contractors could actually argue that they were employees when it suited the situation. The employees were able to bring unfair dismissal claims against the employer even though they had contracts that claimed these were self employed individuals. If you are an employer, this case should cause you some alarm because your company could be open to an unfair dismissal claim when you terminate a contract. All companies really need to make sure that the workers they are using are truly self employed contractors and not employees in disguise.

What makes this Court of Appeal case so interesting is the employer argued that the employees lied about their employee status when it suited them for tax purposes but then when it suited the situation the employee changed their status in order to sue for unfair dismissal. The court found that these employees were originally brought in as self-employed contractors but later, through the actions and suggestions of the employer, they became full employees. Proper training for your management team is essential in order to prevent this situation from happening to your company. Train your managers on how to deal with and how to treat your contractors in order to prevent them from treating a contractor like an employee.

All employers should take the necessary precautions to protect their company from potential employee related lawsuits. Unfair dismissal claims are only one of the possible reasons that you can be sued. Take the time to have a lawyer review in detail who owns all intellectual property created during the course of the contract. It is important to determine who owns the content created for your company. For employees all intellectual property is automatically owned by the company but if you’re using a self-employed contractor the contract owns the materials. Protect your company by speaking to a lawyer today.

According to forecasts, UK economic growth should quicken up a little by the third quarter of 2012, but it will still be historically weak until the third quarter of 2013.
UK economist Samuel Tombs foresees a double-dip recession, and other forecasters, such as Standard & Chartered agree, for as the eurozone crisis continues grow, it will inevitably affect the UK. After all, the eurozone receives 40% of UK’s exports.

In this light, one could say the UK’s economic future is largely out of the UK’s hands.
But it’s not just the countries around that are causing UK’s economic difficulties. Tombs added the British government is also doing its share in compounding the problem by trying to fight the deficit by making expense cuts – largely by deleting jobs.

What it means
These last factors bring us to the biggest questions in the mind of the average citizen: what is the employment outlook in the coming year?
In one word: bleak. Or to be more accurate, make it two words: still bleak.
In 2011, youth unemployment went past 1 million, and overall unemployment went beyond 2.6 million. In addition to more people being unemployed, the amount of time it took for people to find another job also increased.

This trend is expected to continue in 2012. Job security remains low. For those who manage to keep their jobs, wage growth will still be weak. The prospect of living standards going down remains.
When income goes down and one tries to keep lifestyle level, the common recourse is credit. Should it take longer than expected to find another job to pay for that credit, debt problems come in.
