Broadway – A Gem of the United Kingdom
Often referred as the jewel of Cotswolds, the village Broadway lies Worcestershire, located in Cotswolds, England. The general impression a visitor gets is a street fringed with lush grass, centering on the Green. Lined with chestnut trees as red as red and buildings made of Cotswolds limestone, honey in color and usually dating to as far back as the 16th century.
What began as a very busy and strategically located stagecoach stop en-route to London from Worcester, Broadway has since become a haven to many artists and writers of high intellect. Elgar, John Singer Sergeant, J. M. Barrie, Vaughan Williams, William Morris and Mary Anderson are some of the few to call Broadway home, along with eh fictional Lucia, creation of E F Benson whose hometown was inspired with the nature around this village. Aside from the rich literate history, the site of the village was found to have hosted other civilizations through the advent of history, as the Worcester young archeologists club found out one fine day in the year 2004. Objects found on their field walks have found to be dated as far back as 5000 years ago, probably a stopping site for the ancient hunter gatherers.
Today, Broadway is still a home for the intellectually and artistically rich, where object of sound art are made. Being a natural base for those willing to explore the intriguing Cotswolds or the Cheltenham Gold Cup week, tourism has steadily grown in the area. Given the amount of tourists to visit the area, quite a lot of hotels, teashops, inns, and lodges have been built in the village. The village is littered with intriguing attractions like antique shops, a Gordon Russell museum, the 55 foot high Broadway tower and horse riding opportunities. For anyone looking for a tranquil yet bustling village to spend some quality time and bring back souvenirs, Broadway is truly the place to consider.
